Baldwin, the Kansas City-based fashion label from Matt Baldwin, opened a pop up in New York City on Wednesday just in time for New York Fashion Week.

The 2015 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist brings its Kansas roots to 199 Mott Street for a weekend pop up that will close on Sunday, February 12. Huff Architects designed the pop up concept that features waving wheat that nods to late American artist Donald Judd.

The brand considers Manhattan’s Nolita section as the perfect location for its pop up, because of its “local feel.” Designer Matt Baldwin also said that Mott Street in particular is, “a cross-section of our favorite restaurants, retail and local businesses make it the perfect street to start our retail relationship with NYC.”

Baldwin said in an interview with the CFDA, “Timing isn’t everything but it almost is. I have this thing with not skipping a step in the trajectory of the brand, so the next step in the evolution of the brand was a space that further told the story of the brand and the FW17 collection. We have had a great buyer response to FW17 men’s wholesale appointments in the space, and we’re excited to open up the shop this week to NYC with the new men’s and women’s spring collection. Next up, we will show the women’s FW17 collection during fashion week.”

Matt Baldwin was one of the finalists of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2015 and he was named one of GQ’s Best New Menswear Designers in America in 2013. Founded in 2009, Baldwin is a men’s and women’s denim brand that represents Midwestern grit.
