French cosmetics groups Rocher, Clarins, L’Oréal and Coty have joined forces to create the Responsible Beauty Initiative (RBI), whose objective is to promote and boost ethical, social responsibility and environmental action throughout its members’ supply chain.

RBI was created together with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) website EcoVadis, and is designed to allow these four major cosmetics industry players to pool their best practices and to benefit from a series of shared tools, in order to improve their suppliers' CSR performance.

"The members of RBI have enough weight to turn their collaboration into a genuine competitive advantage in the sustainability field, across their entire supply chain worldwide," said Pierre-François Thaler, co-founder and joint President of EcoVadis.

To mark the launch of RBI, its four founding members will sign a charter, inviting all other corporations and suppliers in the cosmetics industry to take part in the project.
