The range comprises two burkini suits in blue and black, both of them covering the whole body with the exception of the face, hands and feet, thus adhering to Islamic modesty rules.

Priced at £49.50, the suit has been for sale in Marks & Spencer stores in Dubai and Libya for three years. The Middle East is one of M&S’ priority markets, where it operates through franchise agreements.

The UK launch of an M&S burkini suit comes shortly after Uniqlo released its collaboration with designer Hana Tajima, which features hijab headscarves and tunics. They follow an increasing demand for stylish modest wear, as UK’s Muslim population continues to expand. In the past 10 years the Muslim community in England and Wales has nearly doubled.
