London’s Regent Street will get a major new tenant soon with luxury bag brand Mulberry set to move in almost directly opposite Burberry’s giant London flagship.

But the Mulberry location won’t be as big as Burberry. It will be in the large former Austin Reed building but the landlord, Hermes Investment Management, has split that space into three separate units.

The company has signed a 10-year lease for 5,000 sq ft and when it opens it will bring its store numbers in London’s West End up to four. Its flagship is around the corner on New Bond Street.

In signing the new lease, it is taking on a store in one of the busiest parts of London. Regent Street has been transformed since its lowest ebb back in the 1990s when large numbers of store spaces were empty and boarded up. Since then, the street has undergone major refurbishment work and is now established as a home for flagships with a stronger high-end appeal than adjacent Oxford Street.

As well as Burberry, other major accessories names there include Michael Kors, Coach, Kate Spade, Furla, Longchamp, Tumi and Piquadro.

The lower end of Regent Street’s main shopping area is also a tourist magnet hosting popular stores like Zara and Superdry, with Piccadilly Circus just a stone’s throw away and some of London’s top hotels, including the Café Royal, nearby.
