Saks Fifth Avenue to possibly open in Amsterdam

American luxury department store Saks Fifth Avenue may open its doors in Amsterdam. According to Dutch newspaper Het Parool, the Canadian owner of the department store, Hudson’s Bay, is currently negotiating the opening of a branch in Amsterdam to be located at Rokin, a street located in the city center currently developing into the city’s newest retail destination, Rokin District.



It has been reported by Dutch media that Hudson’s Bay has been considering entering the Dutch market for a long time. According to newspaper, de Volkskrant, the company was in the running earlier to buy the now bankrupt department chain V&D. Hudson’s Bay has expanded its presence since September 2015 in Europe by purchasing the German department store chain Galeria Kaufhof, which included 102 Galeria Kaufhof stores in Germany and 16 locations under the name Galeria Inno in Belgium.

In addition to the famous Saks Fifth Avenue branch in New York City, the department store currently has 46 branches in the US and Canada. As well as over a hundred branches of its outlet store, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th. In case Saks Fifth Avenue confirms an Amsterdam department store, it will be the first European branch of the Saks Fifth Avenue concept.
