The trade association of garment and clothing manufacturers within Tunisia's employers' organisation CONECT has signed a cooperation agreement with trade show organiser Messe Frankfurt, in order to promote its industrial products internationally.

The agreement was signed at Tunisia's Export Promotion Centre by Samir Ben Abdallah, the President of CONECT'S Groupement Professionnel de la Confection et de l’Habillement (GPCH, the trade association of garment and clothing manufacturers) and Michael Scherpe, President of Messe Frankfurt France, the organiser of the Texworld and Apparel Sourcing trade shows in Paris, New York and Istanbul.

"The agreement follows the generalised declining trend of European imports in textiles and apparel sourced from Tunisia. In a few years, the country in fact fell from 4th to 9th position in the ranking of apparel suppliers to the European Union," stated Messe Frankfurt. "It is worth remembering that 96% of Tunisian output is destined to Europe."

Messe Frankfurt pledged to promote Tunisian textile and apparel companies with a dedicated pavilion at the Apparel Sourcing trade show in Paris next September and February. The show organiser will also be involved in implementing specific promotions in northern Europe and Germany.

For its part, the Tunisian association undertook to promote Messe Frankfurt's trade shows and to ensure a "significant presence of high-performance apparel companies" at Apparel Sourcing's next two editions.
