A permanent Topshop corner coming to Galeries Lafayette

This time, it’s for good. On Wednesday, Topshop announced the October opening of a permanent shop-in-shop at Galeries Lafayette. The corner, located on the second floor, will occupy 176 square meters. The size of the space will let Arcadia Group’s star brand showcase a selection of items from each of its lines, notably Unique, its more creative line that appeared on the London runways.

“We are delighted to open our first pop up store at Galeries Lafayette,” said Kate Phalen, creative director of Topshop since 2001. “The Parisian fashionista will find exactly what she needs in terms of style and fashion,” she promised.

Parisians got a taste of a limited selection from Topshop last February when the same upscale department store hosted a pop-up shop for three weeks. The brand has always sought a permanent location in Paris.

Arcadia Group, directed by Philip Green, sold 25% of its capital in 2012 to American investment fund Leonard Green & Partners (LGP) in order to finance the international expansion of the clothing chain. The transaction valued the brand at 2 billion pounds sterling (2.3 billion euros). Since then, Topshop, like its masculine counterpart Topman — present in France notably at Printemps Haussmann and the boutique French Californians on the rue Tiquetonne — has picked up the pace, looking to enter new markets with the help of partners.

In the US, nearly 30 new Topshop corners are anticipated this year in branches of the Nordstrom chain, which had already installed 14 in 2012. Topshop and Topman arrived in New York in 2009 with their first joint flagship store, then installed a second in Chicago in 2011 and a third in Las Vegas in 2012.
