Amazon: fashion, beauty, and now interior design

While focusing its efforts on fashion sales following the launch of its Luxury Beauty store in September, the online sales site has now created a page dedicated to interior design.

While already having offered products for the home, Amazon has distinguished the new store with a selection of design products from a hundred or so leading brands.

With products from Alessi, Leonardo, Kare Design as well as Lexon, more than a thousand articles are available. Besides décor, the "design shop" also offers linens, cooking utensils, chairs, coffee tables and light fixtures.

Amazon had already invested in a more upscale niche in September with the launch of its Luxury Beauty store for makeup and other luxury beauty products.

The strategy has followed in the wake of Amazon Fashion. The latter, which was launched in 2013, offers more than 2,650 brands and 350,000 products. For fall-winter 2014, the site once more expanded its range with the arrival of 44 new fashion brands, 21 footwear brands and 34 jewelry and watch designers. The aim for the site was to attract high-end brands, as it succeeded in doing with Boss Orange by end of the year.

With 200 million customers, Amazon generated a turnover of 78.71 billion euros in 2014, up 20% compared to 2013. The group nevertheless suffered some 213.17 million euros in losses, as compared with a profit of 218.48 million one year earlier.
