While it has been widely predicted that Amazon Fashion would lure a huge portion of apparel consumers, Amazon is today the most-shopped apparel retailer in the U.S., according to a study conducted by Coresight Research.

The e-commerce giant has moved up from second place in 2018 to surpass Walmart and Target, which consumers of Amazon clothing and footwear said they were switching from, according to Coresight data.

A number of Amazon prime members said they currently take advantage of the online apparel shopping option with around three-quarters of Prime members saying they bought apparel on Amazon in the past year.

The company’s private-label collections also continue to perform well. As a group, Amazon’s private-label collections are the fourth-most-bought clothing or footwear “brand” on the site, just behind brands like Nike, Under Armour and Adidas

On top of satisfying product, Amazon Fashion shoppers say they are satisfied with the site’s online experience and cited the ease of browsing and searching as the top reason to buy apparel on the site.

In terms of criticism, only 13 percent of shoppers think that the site could be made easier to browse.

The survey, conducted online between Jan. 28 and Feb. 5., collected answers from 1,732 demographically representative adults in the U.S.

As the company reaches the top of the apparel market, it is expanding other product categories. Most recently, Amazon entered the makeup market with the launch of its first-ever collection of colour cosmetics.
