Opening in early summer, it becomes Anthropologie’s first European store to open in 2022 and its 18th in the UK.

What’s most important is that its large size with allow the retailer to display full ranges of its womenswear, accessories, homewares/furniture, beauty/wellness, and gifts.

Bought by Cain and Sager Group in 2003, the old Royal Mail sorting office was demolished and rebuilt to create a 500,000 sq ft development includes stores, restaurants, leisure facilities and homes/serviced apartments.

With experiences becoming an ever-important feature to draw in shoppers, Islington Square is billed as having an “enlivenment programme” centred on being a neighbourhood and destination retail hub hosting around 100 events on average a year. These include programmes of workshops and larger community get-togethers and Anthropologie will be participating to mark the opening of the store.

Matt Hilgeman, MD, Anthropologie International, said: “Our stores are still the beating heart of our brand experience and it's exciting to be increasing our UK portfolio. Art and creativity are the touchstones of Anthropologie, so it makes sense to unite with the vibrant design-savvy cosmopolitan community of Islington. We are delighted to be joining the neighbourhood.”

Neil Barber, Retail Leasing Director at Cain International, added: “As Islington Square increasingly becomes a destination for people looking for brilliant brands in interesting settings, as well as a neighbourhood space for people to eat, drink and shop, brands like Anthropologie are an important addition to creating a first-class experience for our guests.

“With bricks-and-mortar increasingly focused on experiences that add value over items to be transacted, retailers like Anthropologie will increasingly stand out.”
