Barbara Bui is launching its first menswear collection, which will be available in-store and on the high-end label’s website from September 2019, just in time for the next autumn season. The collection consists of 25 items, including overcoats, duffel coats, knitwear, sport jackets and ranger boots, at prices ranging between €350 and €2,700.

Barbara Bui, which operates three directly owned stores in Paris and three franchises (two in Russia and one in the Ukraine), did present a scattering of menswear looks in previous catwalk shows, without however commercialising any of those items.

This time, the eponymous designer said: “Our Barbara Bui stores and our e-tail site will be showcasing both menswear and womenswear, as gender distinction is becoming increasingly obsolete. The men's and women's lines will therefore merge into one single collection.”

The label’s 250 multibrand distributors will only be able to feature the new line from Spring/Summer 2020.

While 2017 was a troubled year for Barbara Bui, with revenue down 27%, in the first half of the 2018 financial year, ending on June 30, the label posted a 2.8% increase, with sales for €6.5 million, boosted by its Parisian stores’ retail sales, which leaped 16% in the period.

Barbara Bui generates 65% of its revenue in France, and is relying on both the brand-new menswear line and its e-store as genuine growth drivers. The e-store has been run internally since July 2017, and currently accounts for 3% of Barbara Bui’s revenue. According to the label, e-tail revenue is constantly growing, and should soon reach 5% of the total.
