Despite originally being a U.S. tradition, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are becoming increasingly prevalent in Australia, with deliveries experiencing double-digit year-on-year growth.

According to e-commerce delivery firm CouriersPlease (CP), orders placed by Australians during Black Friday and Cyber Monday will increase by more than 10%, based on the double-digit percentage increase in deliveries made a week after the events in both 2016 and 2017.

While Australia is still playing catch-up to the U.S. and UK in terms of participation size and expenditure, more Australian shoppers and retailers are expected to take part in the weekend shopping extravaganza.

“We’re seeing more and more [Australian] retailers jump on this event and offer enticing deals in an attempt to convince us to shop online," said Jessica Ip, a spokesperson for CP.

"We have seen an increase in CP’s delivery volumes around this time which accounts for thousands of items being purchased, and we expect this number to consistently grow as the shopping event becomes more established in our market.”

CouriersPlease delivered some 18 million packages during the year 2017..
