PricewaterhouseCoopers recently released ranking of brands by market capitalization. While LVMH, Nike, L'Oréal and Inditex held their own, it was the leaders in online sales and new technologies which dominated.

The United States now accounts for more than half of the Top 100 most valued companies - Pwc

With regards to the previous ranking, which was conducted in 2009, Chinese company Alibaba now appears on the list in 22nd place, followed in 34th by its US rival, Amazon. Formerly in 3rd, Walmart has, meanwhile, fallen to 12th place.

The retailer has thus given way to the technology and web giant Apple, which has taken first place, climbing 32 places and overtaking Google, which rose by 20 places, while Facebook came in 17th.

P&G slid nine places to 19th, while its competitor Unilever has risen by nine places to 51st. Below, L'Oréal had risen by 20 places to 75th. The French company is followed on its heels by the Spanish company Inditex. Zara’s parent company has joined the ranking directly at 77th. It has overtaken the luxury giant LVMH, which occupies the 92th place, while Nike is in 99th.
