Burberry launches SS22 campaign as world emerges from lockdowns
Burberry has unveiled its SS22 campaign with creative chief Riccardo Tisci saying that “as we come out of lockdowns around the world, I wanted this campaign to make people feel something, free to dream, free to feel youthful and alive again. It is a beautiful dance, a very raw energy that’s powerful and full of life. Like an awakening”.
He added that he wanted to continue the “visceral energy that was contrasted with really beautiful soundscapes” of the season’s menswear and womenswear shows. The campaign is “a flicking between realities, contrasting Mert and Marcus’ pure youthful energy with Chris Rhodes’ raw youthful spirit”.
What that means in practice is an exploration of “the power of self-expression” and “the house’s code of duality”.
Burberry has frequently chosen to present strong contrasts in its campaigns and this time we get raw studio shots by Mert and Marcus that are contrasted with “intimate, candid” shots by Chris Rhodes, taken backstage at the SS22 presentations.
The cast includes models Chisom Okeke, Chu Wong, Claus Emilio Royo, Erwan Konate, Irina Shayk, Manolo Teodosiu, Maria Keidj, Miles Gardner, Mona Tougaard, Niclas Baker, Paula Rudevica, Rianne Van Rompaey, Siny Mbengue, Sita Zampou and Vira Boshkova.
Styling for both shoots was by Katy England while Isamaya Ffrench (Burberry Global Beauty Director) and Jawara worked on the make-up and hair.
