Burberry has launched its AW21 campaign and given that it’s the first main-season campaign since the reopening of many markets post-pandemic, it’s a crucial one for the company.

Reflecting the times, Burberry creative chief Riccardo Tisci said that “this season is very much about freedom of expression and the importance of exploring creativity”.

As a result, for the campaign, he said he “really wanted to build on these notions and have the collection captured from two different creative perspectives. I collaborated with the incredible Katy England on the styling to create a beautiful and powerful fluidity across both juxtaposing images, and I am so excited to have also worked with Mert and Marcus and Chris Rhodes to bring them to life through each of their unique lenses”.

What that means in practice is the “bringing together [of] contrasting perspectives in a celebration of the season’s exploration of fluidity and the power of individuality”.

The company plays on the concept of duality and contrasts raw, classical studio stills — as mentioned, shot by Mert and Marcus — with “bold, candid shots” captured backstage at the AW21 presentations by Rhodes.

The cast list features a diverse line-up of models including Chai Maximus, Felice Noordhoff, Finn Rosseel, Karo Laczkowska, Kayako Higuchi, Khalil Ghani, Mariacarla Boscono, Mona Tougaard, Nic Minwoo, Nozomu Ito, Rianne von Rompaey, Sita Zampou and Yilan Hua.
