Cédric Charlier coming back to Paris with joint men’s and women’s show

Cédric Charlier is heading back to Paris. And that’s after a peripatetic recent show career. The Belgium designer will stage a joint men’s and women’s Spring 2018 collection in Paris on Wednesday June 21, the opening day of the French menswear season. No word yet where in the capital the catwalk moment will be staged.

Cédric Charlier in Milan in January

Back in June last year, Charlier unveiled his spring women’s collection in New York; while in January he showed up in Milan, for a mixed men’s and women’s Fall 2017 debut show. Charlier is backed by Aeffe, the Italian fashion group whose houses include Alberta Ferretti, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini and Pollini.

That last outing highlighted all that Charlier is best noted for – a distinctive blend of street glamour, posh athletic styling and bold colors. Gals wore mannish check pants and boyfriend’s coats; guys donned outerwear and parkas in party girl hues.

Born in Belgium in 1978, Charlier studied at the Brussels School of Visual Arts, before joining Céline under Michael Kors. After spending six years with Alber Elbaz at Lanvin, Charlier was named artistic director of Cacharel, before launching his own marque in 2012. Charlier is widely regarded as one of the finest fashion talents under the age of 40, whose slow-burning career helped prepare an aesthetic distinguished by practicality yet also panache.
