Celebrity merch fixes on fast fashion: The Weeknd taps Urban Outfitters, Bieber joins H&M
After launching successful pop-ups, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd are furthering their retail ventures and tapping large-scale, fast-fashion retailers to carry each musician's promotional merchandise.
To promote the Canadian R&B singer’s just-released album, The Weeknd has teamed up with Urban Outfitters to release promotional merchandise. The six piece collection, ranging from long-sleeved t-shirts to coach jackets to baseball caps, retails between $28 and $99 at select Urban Outfitters. This comes after The Weeknd launched a series of pop-up shops around the continent prior to launching his new album.
Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber is also pairing up with not just one, but over six fast-fashion retailers to carry his ‘Purpose’ merchandise. Bieber has been rotating his collection of graphic hoodies, jackets, hats, and t-shirts around for limited-edition runs at Barneys, Selfridges, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, H&M, and Pacsun. Bieber hosted a series of merchandise pop-ups around the world, each opening in conjunction with a local concert appearance. Bieber consistently moved at least 60% of the pop-up merchandise within the first two days of the pop-up opening.
Bieber and The Weeknd are just two celebrities looking to merchandise as a new source of revenue. A Tribe Called Quest opened a pop-up in New York last month, to promote the group's first album in eighteen years, while Kanye West made headlines around the world as fans queued overnight for the chance to purchase Yeezy merchandise at one of his pop-up shops.
Both Justin Bieber and The Weeknd's merchandise is now available at H&M and Urban Outfitters, respectively. Quantities are limited.
