Chloé heads to Shanghai

Chloé is the latest fashion house heading to China.

The luxury French label is set to showcase its upcoming resort collection in Shanghai on June 5, the label said in a press release. The move is a big first for the house, which has historically always held its shows in Paris and has never yet put on a runway show for a pre-collection.

"It's also the first time that Chloé is showing abroad and that the label has organised an event in China since the April 2017 appointment of Natacha Ramsay-Levi as creative director," the label said in a release.

The decision does not, however, signify that Chloé will hold a runway show for its pre-collection every year from now on. This particular show has been organised as a one-off event that Ramsay-Levi conceived of following an inspiration-seeking trip to Shanghai. The location has not yet been disclosed, but it is apparently one that Ramsay-Levi "greatly appreciated."

Shanghai is fast becoming a major fashion destination for the industry's biggest global designers. US heritage brand Coach took to the catwalk in the city last December, to present its pre-fall 2019 ready-to-wear collection in a show that was titled ‘Coach Lights Up Shanghai,' marking 15 years of the brand's presence in China. Miu Miu also took its Resort 2019 collection to the city last November, while September saw Tommy Hilfiger check into town with his "TommyNow Icons" fashion show. However, the Italian label Dolce & Gabbana was forced to cancel a show it had planned in the city last November, after it became embroiled in controversy relating to a series of social media posts that were widely deemed racially insensitive.
