Common Market launches EU jumper in time for referendum

Common Market, the British fashion brand started by Emma Shore and Alasdair Hiscock, has created a "nine flags" EU jumper, inspired by one worn by Margaret Thatcher, in time for the EU referendum in the UK.

Common Market's EU jumper - Common Market

Thatcher originally wore the jumper in 1975, when "even Tory nationalists espoused closer European integration under the slogan ‘Support Your Local Continent," Common Market says.

Like, seemingly, most of Britain's creative talent, Common Market supports the Remain campaign, which opposes a Brexit, and says the 9 Flags jumper references the positive imagery of the earlier European referendum, when Britain overwhelmingly chose to stay part of Europe.

The motif consists of the flags of the nine countries who made up the Common Market in 1975: Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, West Germany, Ireland, Denmark, and the United Kingdom.

The EU referendum takes place on June 23rd in the UK.
