Decathlon UK focuses on health and well-being programme

Sustainability drives come in many forms, and this initiative is all about supporting local residents in pursuing active and healthy lifestyles.

Sporting goods retailer Decathlon UK has partnered with property company Art-Invest Real Estate to finance a Health & Wellbeing Community Fund to support active lifestyles in the Canada Water region of London.

The partnership will jointly spend £200,000 over the next five years to sponsor initiatives, events, and activities to benefit the local community “with the hope of creating a lasting legacy”. 

The fund will support people at all life stages “by increasing access to sport, promoting physical activity and optimising the use of existing local facilities”.

Decathlon will draw on its “wealth of experience in producing exciting sporting activities” while Art-Invest will use its extensive local network “to ensure partnerships and opportunities within the local community are realised” for the Surrey Quays Road 4.5-acre Canada Water Dockside area.

Canada Water Dockside – adjacent to British Land’s Canada Water Masterplan Area – is undergoing a six-year development plan that will look to provide up to 10,000 jobs throughout the duration of the project, contributing toward a future town centre in Canada Water and response to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Delphine Mazillier, Community Impact Manager for Decathlon UK, said: “Canada Water was the site of our first UK store and is our UK headquarters, so this five-year partnership shows our commitment to serving the local community is as strong as it has ever been.

“We want to inspire everyone to lead healthy and physically active lifestyles and the best way to do this is by directly engaging with our local community.

“Through the partnership and community fund we will be able to support community initiatives and deliver sports activities, where people of all abilities and backgrounds will be made to feel welcome. We offer a unique range of products, services, and activities for over 70 sports so we’re sure there will be something for everyone to enjoy.”
