Depop CEO Maria Raga to step down, Etsy's Kruti Patel Goyal is new chief executive
Fashion resale marketplace Depop said on Wednesday that its CEO Maria Raga is to exit the firm, with Kruti Patel Goyal, the chief product officer of owner Etsy, set to take up the role as of September 12.
Raga, who will stay on in an advisory capacity until the end of September, said in a long LinkedIn post that “after 8 unbelievable years of leading Depop, I’ve made the almost impossible decision to step down as CEO in order to take a break and spend more time with my family”.
Meanwhile, when Goyal moves to become CEO (and relocates to London, where Depop is headquartered), she’ll be replaced at Etsy by Nick Daniel, its VP of product management and an eight-year veteran of the business.
Raga added that she “can’t wait to welcome [Kruti] to the UK so I can start introducing her to the coolest people I know, our Depop community, and London’s bright fashion & tech scene”.
Etsy CEO Josh Silverman said that “Depop is a highly relevant and authentic re-commerce brand that we believe is still early in its growth lifecycle. I have no doubt Kruti is the right leader for Depop's next chapter as we focus on nurturing its passionate community and improving the customer experience. She has guided Etsy through periods of significant transformation, with a proven track record of motivating teams to deliver results and advance our mission.”
He also said that she’s made a big impact at Etsy and in her current role has “transformed [its] product development culture, scaled our teams, and significantly improved the shopping experience within the marketplace”.
And he added that Daniel has “led highly-technical, complex, and cross-functional initiatives that have unlocked significant value for Etsy's customers and stakeholders. He championed the expansion and optimisation of Etsy Ads and oversaw efforts to create a more personalised shopping experience, improve the selling platform, and scale Etsy's marketing technology capabilities”.
