Following collaborations with Shayne Oliver and Glenn Martens, Diesel has called on the services of another talented designer. To coincide with the Venice Biennale, which runs from May 11 to November 24, the Italian brand will present the collaboration with Gosha Rubchinskiy, Diesel Red Tag x GR-Uniforma – the third incarnation of the Diesel Red Tag project – on May 9.

Through this concept, Renzo Rosso has been giving carte blanche to a series of designers to reinterpret the archives of his brand or to create a new vision for it.

In 2008, Rubchinskiy created his namesake label, taking inspiration from skate culture and vintage football, and mixing it with a touch of melancholy and a spirit that many see as representative of the mentality of contemporary Russian youth. On April 4 2018, however, the designer announced the end of the venture undertaken with the support of Comme des Garçons, explaining, "We will stop Gosha Rubchinskiy brand as you’ve known it. We will have no more seasonal collections. Instead, something new is coming." That "something new" has now been revealed to be GR-Uniforma, a label built around an approach combining a range of different artistic practices, including photography, video, film, performance and music.

On the future brand's website, the designer has uploaded a film shot in Georgia, as well as a manifesto and a series of answers to questions about art and Russia. Rubchinskiy explains that he not only shot the images but also produced the music that will accompany the launch of the brand in the second half of 2018. The first collection is called Gruppa (as is its accompanying project) and will be available from March 16 through Dover Street Market's retail network.

The project with Diesel will therefore complement the new brand's experimental edge and on 9th May, the Moscow-born designer will also be offering up an artistic performance. Targeting hip multibrand stores, the collaborative collection will be distributed by the Tomorrow London group.
