Spanish brand El Ganso, partly owned by LVMH’s private equity arm L Capital, increased sales by 17% to €82 million euros ($87 million) in 2016, up from €70 million ($74 million) in the previous year, according to the company’s full-year report.

Last year the clothing company increased its focus on its digital strategy by investing €360,000 ($384,000) in a series of projects aimed at boosting the online sales channel.

El Ganso said this move sent its online sales up 87% in the second half of 2016, compared with the same period last year.

The upmarket premium brand is committed to delivering an omnichannel experience and its strategic priorities include the innovation and implementation of new technologies, such as mobile payments in-store and more flexible payment options, including monthly instalments and beacon-based mobile payments.

“We ended 2016 with double-digit growth and a greater presence inside and outside Spain,” said El Ganso CEO Alvaro Cebrian.

The chief executive was upbeat about prospects for this year. “In 2017 we will continue to strengthen our expansion strategy with 25 new openings in France, Portugal, Germany and Spain, and plan to launch a new store concept,” he revealed.

El Ganso has currently an in-house IT team that is working on new developments aimed at merging the online and offline experience, including the development of an online-based returns option allowing customers to return items from their online accounts. The brand is also planning to expand its 2-hour delivery service, already introduced in Madrid and Barcelona, to all cities where it operates a store.

International expansion

El Ganso accelerated its store opening programme last year by adding 50 new stores in the French, British, Mexican, Spanish and German markets.

France saw more than 20 new openings last year, including a new flagship store on Boulevard de Madeleine in Paris, as well as a strategic partnership with Galeries Lafayette. The business also opened six new stores in Mexico through a partnership with leading shopping centre operator Liverpool.

El Ganso has currently 177 stores in 10 countries, including France, Portugal, Belgium, England, Chile, Mexico, Netherlands, Italy and Germany.
