Esprit CEO and former Inditex man Jose Manuel Martinez has named former Zara co-worker Rafael Pastor Espuch as chief product officer at the brand. Pastor Espuch had previously spent 18 years at the Spanish retailing giant.

He also joins Juan Chaparro, also formerly at Zara, who came to the brand in June this year as head of buying. At Esprit, Pastor Espuch will head up product development and design, taking over from Melody Harris-Jensbach who steps down on October 31. He will report to Jose Manuel Martinez.

During his time at Inditex, Pastor Espuch held various positions but notably took over as executive director of the Zara Basic line in 2001, a part of the business generating some €2 billion in sales, not far from Esprit’s €2.4 billion.

Since his arrival at Esprit, Jose Manuel Martinez has called upon the expertise of various former Inditex managers to help shape the brand’s strategy, which focuses on reactivity and rapidity.
