EuroSIMA is looking for emerging start-ups. For the fourth consecutive year, the European surf and board sport manufacturers association has issued a call for applications to its mentorship programme. The call's regulations stipulate that the start-ups must have been in business for less than three years, they must be EuroSIMA members in 2019 and operate in the European action sports industry as manufacturers, distributors or service providers. The application deadline is July 19 2019, and two winners will be selected by the association's board of directors. Among the discriminating factors, the start-ups’ economic viability, their ability to innovate and their understanding of their activity’s impact on the local economy and environment.

“Start-ups are a resource for EuroSIMA. They contribute the kind of boldness and creativity that are typical of our industry. It's therefore essential that we support and work with them, because they are the future of the industry,” said Wilco Prins, who was elected president of EuroSIMA in May 2016.

Last year, EuroSIMA picked Freshbarrel, which produces eco-designed accessories, and Once Skateboard, an artisanal brand of children’s skateboards. The two start-ups selected by the association’s board will benefit from a one-year membership of EuroSIMA, with access to the events organised by the association, a promotional opportunity at the Sport-Achat Lyon trade show in Lyon, France, a cash prize of €1,500 offered by Crédit Coopératif and Sofitech, and the chance to pitch their projects to industry operators taking part in the Surf Summit event.

EuroSIMA was founded in 1999, and its website says it wants to “create the industry of the future, together.” The association has 172 member companies with 4,000 employees altogether, active on a market whose worth is estimated at €13 billion. The association’s role is to bring together board sport companies, promoting the industry as a whole, including its products and employees, to stimulate its growth.
