Italian eyewear group Marcolin has created Marcolin Mexico, a joint-venture company with Mexican distributor Moendi, to boost Marcolin's presence in the Central American country.

“We are proud to represent Marcolin's prestigious brand portfolio in Mexico," said Moendi's founder Mario Goldwasser. "Thanks to our shared business vision, the foundation of our partnership, we will work together to enhance the Marcolin Group’s market share in our country,” he added.

The new company, in which Marcolin Group has a 51% stake, is called Marcolin Mexico and is based in Naucalpan.

Through this partnership with Mexico's largest independent eyewear distributor, active on the local market for over 25 years, Marcolin will expand the presence in Mexico of the eyewear collections of some of its portfolio's leading brands.

Moendi has over 1,000 clients throughout Mexico's 32 states, and in 2016 it sold over 250,000 optical frames and sunglasses.

The creation of Marcolin Mexico follows that of other joint-venture companies set up by the Italian group, notably with luxury giant LVMH and with Rivoli Group, one of the Middle East's largest luxury retailers.

Led by CEO Massimo Renon, the Marcolin Group operates four showrooms in Milan, Paris, New York and Hong Kong, and is represented by 161 distributors in 127 countries.
