Ferry Schiffelers wins Lichting 2018 during Amsterdam Fashion Week
Dutch fashion designer Ferry Schiffelers has been awarded with the Lichting 2018 Prize. The prize was awarded on the evening of Friday 7 September.
During Amsterdam Fashion Week, Lichting 2018 showcased the work of 14 talents from seven Dutch fashion and design academies. The talents competed for a €10,000 prize by showing their graduate collections on the runway of the bi-annual event.
Schiffelers, a graduate of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI), debuted Défilé De Deuil, a collection that combines the designer’s fascination for funeral rituals with his love for feminine beauty.
The jury commented on the collection: “From the moment the collection was presented to us, we sensed a wave of emotions and respect for classic fashion combined with innovation, with the high level of professionalism that is unusual for a designer of his age. This is certainly a first step towards a great future in fashion [for the designer].”
The jury consisted of: Alvise Bullo, junior research manager of creative talents atLVMH Fashion Group; Christopher New, course leader of BA fashion menswear and fashion program academic quality coordinator at Central Saint Martins; Filep Motwary, independent curator and author, photographer, and fashion features editor at Dapper Dan Magazine; and Gry Nissen, creative director.
Lichting was created to build a bridge between the participating academies sand the fashion industry. The goal of Lichting is to offer promising talent a gateway towards a viable career.
Lichting is an initiative of Amsterdam Fashion Week and HTNK fashion recruitment & consultancy and is supported by the Meester Koetsier Foundation and Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam.
