French budget retailer Tati set out to expand abroad two years ago, and it is now turning towards Romania. On 27th October, the brand opened its first European store outside France there, in association with a local partner, Peeraj.

The 1,700 m² store is located within the 'Veranda Mall' in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. It offers the brand's customary range, showcasing its fashion, home and beauty products with a display approach similar to a department store's.

Tati has stated it intends to open other stores in Romania and it is also interested in expanding into other countries such as Hungary, Serbia and Bulgaria. International markets are a coveted prize for Tati: according to management, they currently account for 10% of the group's revenue and are expected to account for one third by 2019.

In order to achieve this, Tati is planning twenty new openings by the end of the year, in Oman, Cairo, Mayotte (a French territory off the coast of south-east Africa), the Antilles and Mauritius. The retailer currently operates 150 stores in France and 15 abroad, notably in Dubai, Tehran, Tunisia, Morocco and Jordan.
