“We have received interests from Dubai, Chicago, Mauritius and South Africa as people in these places are interested in opening Khadi outlets under the franchisee model. We are likely to take a decision in this regard in the next 3-4 months,” Khadi and Village Industries Commission Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena, told news agency PTI.

MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra added that he has received requests from many countries to open exclusive khadi outlets and the ministry is currently preparing a blueprint to promote products made using the indigenous handspun fabric in the global markets.

Leading Indian fashion brands like Raymond and Aditya Birla Fashion are also trying to cash in on khadi and have signed exclusive partnerships with KVIC to sell and develop khadi products in India.

Raymond, India’s leading textile and apparel conglomerate, recently launched India’s first branded Khadi label, ‘Khadi by Raymond’.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also actively promoting khadi and in his latest radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’, urged people to gift khadi products, which is likely to give a boost to khadi sales.

The Prime Minister also recalled his last visit to London, where Queen Elizabeth showed him small thread-spun khadi handkerchief, gifted to her by Mahatma Gandhi as a wedding gift.
