Gucci launches collab with Tommey Walker’s Detroit vs. Everybody

As part of its Gucci Changemakers initiative, Italian luxury brand Gucci has released a collaborative t-shirt collection with designer Tommey Walker and his label Detroit vs. Everybody.

The first product collaboration presented as part of the social impact program, the capsule riffs off Walker’s “vs. Everybody” slogan – a tribute to the independent spirit of his hometown of Detroit – to create logo t-shirts representing each of Gucci Changemakers’ 11 U.S. focus cities.
The cities include Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington DC.

Each t-shirt is available in limited quantities, retailing exclusively in the associated city’s Gucci flagship for $390. In addition, a special-edition co-branded “Gucci vs. Everybody” t-shirt is being sold at the Troy Somerset Collection Gucci store in Detroit.
The full Gucci x Detroit vs. Everybody capsule is now available for purchase on the Gucci e-commerce platform in the United States.
“My partnership with Gucci is a dream come true, not just for me and my team, but also for celebrating the city of Detroit’s cultural richness and innovation,” commented Walker in a release. “I’ve long admired the creative genius that is Alessandro Michele and am honored and humbled that Gucci respects my work. Detroit vs. Everybody and Gucci share the same unifying ethos, to bring people together for a greater good and to transform a feeling into a cultural moment.”
Launched in 2019, the Gucci Changemakers initiative provides donations to non-profits working to achieve social change and foment connections and opportunities within communities of color in each of the program’s focus cities.
As part of the partnership between Gucci and Walker, a donation will be made to both the 2020 and recently announced 2021 Gucci Changemakers North America Impact Fund winners. These non-profits focus on a range of important social impact areas, from social justice and health equity to arts, culture and education.
The launch of the collaborative capsule is accompanied by a video anthem featuring local Detroit changemakers, including Bakpak Durden, a mural artist who has also created a custom painting in honor of the partnership.
On top of this, activist and educator Brittany Packnett will also participate in a conversation with Walker on Gucci’s podcast channel.
