The Swedish clothing company said the 785,765-square-foot logistics hub will create about 800 new jobs and use high-tech systems to meet customer demands in a faster and more efficient manner.

“Our customers are increasingly choosing to shop with us in an omnichannel way, so we see this facility as a really important way for us to integrate our online and store operations so that we can meet our customer’s changing needs more effectively,” commented H&M country manager Toni Galli.

As part of its efforts to become a stronger digital player, H&M is set to launch a same-day delivery service in the UK this year, and is testing a number of technologies including visual search, a fit app and a Find in Store tool in a variety of countries.

In the first three months of 2019, ended 28 February, the company reported an 8% increase in stores and online in the UK.

H&M logistics manager Fay Rennocks said: “We believe that the technological solutions in place at our new distribution centre will reduce the need for our employees to engage in repetitive tasks, while enabling improvements for customer service.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer some exciting new roles in an area of ever-increasing importance within our business.”
