Herbivore names Kendo’s Sandy Saputo as CEO
Natural skincare brand Herbivore Botanicals has named former Kendo executive Sandy Saputo as its new chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2020. She will also join the company's board of directors.
For the past three years, Saputo has served as Kendo's chief marketing officer, where she introduced digital and social-first integrated marketing strategies to the company's portfolio of six beauty and skincare brands, and notably led the launch of Fenty Beauty in 2017.
Prior to Kendo, she gained additional leadership experience as senior vice president of global marketing and later chief marketing officer of Bare Minerals, and as vice president of Procter & Gamble.
“Sandy Saputo has long held a flawless reputation in the beauty industry, thanks in part to her proven track record leading and building beauty brands through periods of significant growth and breakthrough innovation," said Brian Thorne, partner of Silas Capital, a venture and growth equity firm that led a $15 million Series A funding round for Herbivore Botanicals in August of 2019.
"We’re thrilled to have someone with Sandy’s experience leading the company during its next phase of expansion.”
At the closing time of the funding round, the company said it planned to use the new capital to expand its manufacturing capabilities and increase brand awareness through digital and in-store marketing.
“We are so incredibly grateful to have Sandy Saputo as our new CEO," said Alex Kummerow and Julia Wills, the co-founders of Herbivore Botanicals who established the company in 2011.
"Her vast knowledge of the industry combined with her positive and unstoppable attitude will no doubt carry Herbivore to great new heights.”
Currently, Herbivore Botanicals is available in over 500 doors globally, including retailers like Nordstrom, Credo, Space NK, Carbon Beauty, Follain and Sephora.
