The UK edition of women’s lifestyle and fashion magazine InStyle will be digital-only from next year with Time Inc planning to close the print edition. It launched in Britain 15 years ago and December will be the final printed edition.

The 15-year-old print edition will end with December's issue

The UK team will now work more closely with the US team to offer global content around the clock with the company saying this will be a more compelling offer for advertisers, as well as readers.

A spokesperson said the company has an online target growth of 200% for next year across the UK arm’s digital platforms. Time Inc quoted data from comScore showing that its US edition grew by 96% last year to reach 10.5m unique users.

It is understood that a number of jobs will be lost in the UK, but Time Inc has not confirmed this, nor mentioned any numbers. Currently the magazine employs 26 staff, including freelancers.

Editor Charlotte Moore said the print edition had been impacted by changes in the way its audience interacts with fashion content and “we have to change to meet that challenge.”

Despite InStyle UK scoring strongly on the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) active purchasing list, and its circulation of just over 121,000, only around one-third of its copies are sold for the cover price of £3.99. More than one-third are distributed free.

Its circulation dropped 18% in the latest six-monthly figures.
