British eyewear specialist Inspecs has announced that its new CEO has taken over as of today and two key non-executive directors have been appointed with a former M&S and Superdry exec among them.

Richard Peck, who’s served as a non-exec since January 2020, has taken over as Group CEO. With over 35 years' experience in the optical industry, he “brings a wealth of knowledge having previously been Managing Director of Luxottica Retail Northern Europe and Managing Director of David Clulow opticians”.

The move comes as Lord MacLaurin has retired as Chairman with founder and CEO Robin Totterman now moving to the Executive Chairman’s role.

Peck and Totterman will “work closely together, along with the board, to develop the company's global position as a leading player in eyewear solutions through its vertically-integrated frame and lens capabilities”.

Meanwhile, new non-exec Hugo Adams has more than 25 years' experience working for some of the biggest and best-known, global consumer brands including The Body Shop and running marketing and international expansion at Dyson.

During nine years at M&S, he managed businesses across Europe and the Middle East, as well as being Chief of Staff to the CEO and subsequently Property Director. He also served on the executive board at Superdry, responsible for marketing and business development and most recently as CEO of Start-Rite Shoes. He’ll serve on the Audit & Risk, Remuneration and Nomination and the newly formed Environmental, Social and Governance committee.

And Shaun Smith is the other new non-exec. He’s previously held CFO roles with Norcros and Aga Rangemaster Group. He join's the Audit & Risk and Remuneration & Nomination Committees.

Tottertman said of all this that the “appointments come at an important time for the group. The board is delighted that Richard has become CEO with his extensive business development skills gained at Luxottica and is confident he is the right person to lead Inspecs through the next stage of its growth.”

The company makes eyewear under its own labels, as well as for brands including Superdry, O’Neill, Radley, Farah, Ted Baker, Lulu Guinness, Talbot Runhof and Marc O’Polo.
