Shanghai’s textile and clothing shows, initially planned for March 11-13, have been postponed. Messe Frankfurt, the German organizer, announced that Intertextile, Apparel Fabrics, Yarn Expo and Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles have effectively been delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Chic fashion trade fair has also been postponed.

Messe Frankfurt had previously announced that it was postponing several different shows in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, such as Prolight + Sound, Industrial Automation Fair, Asiamold, Toy & Edu, as well as Baby & Stroller.

Celebrating 25 years in September, Intertextile is organized in partnership with the Chinese textile industry sub-committee (CCPIT-Tex) and the China Textile Information Center. More than 4,400 businesses and 80,000 visiting professionals come every year, travelling mostly from different provinces in China.

“Messe Frankfurt has been an active player in the Chinese market for more than 30 years now, and we fully support the government’s efforts to gain control over this epidemic,” commented Wendy Wen, the general manager of Messe Frankfurt in Hong Kong. “This includes the recent large-scale interruption of commercial and economic activity in certain cities. With that and the wellbeing of all stakeholders in mind, we have decided to postpone Shanghai’s upcoming textile trade shows to a later date. Our teams are working to find suitable alternatives, but we will only decide to organize these fairs when it is deemed safe."

Chic, the show organized by China’s National Garment Association (CNGA), received more than 100,000 visitors and 1,365 exhibitors during last year’s show in March 2019. The semi-professional show hoped to match these numbers in 2020. “We apologize for the inconvenience. However, all of our efforts will go towards ensuring the next show’s success,” commented the organizing committee.

Chic and Intertextile have said that a later statement will be issued regarding the rescheduling of the shows. The next event is expected for September 25-27, 2020. The dates of the fall event had, however, been brought forward beforehand.
