Egyptian jeweller Azza Fahmy is to debut in the UK with the brand having just signed up to a store in luxury shopping-location-cum-tourist-destination Burlington Arcade.

Burlington Arcade is one of London's most exclusive shopping locations

The luxe brand, which next year will celebrate its 50th anniversary, will open in the historic site that spans Piccadilly and Mayfair after signing a five-year contract for a ground-floor shop.

The brand is a celebrity favourite and has counted major names such as Rihanna, Joss Stone and Naomi Campbell among its customers.

The store will open in March and will count some of the big names of luxury fashion as neighbours, including Chanel, La Perla, Manolo Blahnik and Mulberry. Late last year, beauty specialist Atkinsons opened a store there and bag label Sophie Hulme also launched a pop-up. The arcade currently hosts 10 other luxury jewellers.

Azza Fahmy MD Fatma Ghaly said the company has been considering opening a store in London “for some time”. Property specialist Cushman & Wakefield said at least 30 luxury brands are lined up to open London stores at present with the high-end sector suffering much less from the impact of online shopping and still seeing physical stores expansion as key.

The 200-year-old Burlington Arcade is currently up for sale. Owners Meyer Bergman and Thor Equities are believed to be seeking around £400 million, describing it as “a historical and architectural masterpiece, and one of the most renowned retail destinations in the world.”
