Jil Sander will star at the next edition of Pitti Uomo. The luxury label owned by Japanese group Onward has been chosen as the guest of honour of the menswear show scheduled in Florence on January 7-10 2020. The event’s organisers announced their choice on Thursday, giving however no details about the date and venue of Jil Sander’s show.

It is a return to Florence for Jil Sander, the label having previously showed at Pitti Uomo in 2010, under the aegis of Raf Simons. In January, it will be designers Lucie and Luke Meier, in charge of style at Jil Sander since 2017, who will unveil the label's Fall/Winter 2020-21 collection. Jil Sander’s latest summer collection was presented at the Milan Fashion Week in September, but the label will not be showing at the next Milanese event in February.

“For us, showing in Florence will be both an honour and an achievement. We met for the first time in this city, and we would never have imagined we’d come back here together for a Pitti Uomo event. It’s a truly special opportunity,” said the British-Swiss duo, partners in work and in life, in a press release.

Explaining the choice, the director of communication and events at Pitti Immagine, Lapo Cianchi, underlined the work of Lucie and Luke Meier, “with their highly exact vision of fashion, which clearly shows a constant effort to strike a balance between the minimalist aesthetic on which the label built its success and the desire to excite, combined with a great attention to details.”
