Founded in Istanbul by Turkey natives Numan Atakar and Kerime Atakar, John Paul Atakar celebrates purposeful “slow fashion” that include tailored silhouettes crafted with materials and dyes that are environmentally and ecologically friendly. The Atakars named the brand after their grandfather and the name of Numan’s son.

Now based in New York City, John Paul Atakar is opening its first US flagship store on Madison Avenue.

The brand on Monday, September 11 is debuting a Black Sea-inspired collection that channels fishermen and celebrates the region’s coasts, mountains and green valleys.

The spring 2018 collection boasts native and traditional pieces such as bolero jackets, or “cepkens,” baggy pants, or “shalwar,” and loincloths, or “peshtemal.” In addition, the brand will also present a new line of shoes for the show that draw inspiration from traditional fishermen boots and farmers’ footwear.

The John Paul Atakar spring 2018 runway show will be held at Skylight Clarkson Square in SoHo.
