John Lewis customer director exits
John Lewis & Partners has lost another senior executive as Craig Inglis, customer director, announced his departure after 12 years.
This is the latest big change for the department store chain after plans to integrate with Waitrose led to the exit of the managing directors of both brands.
John Lewis Partnership believes the new corporate structure will allow its entities to operate as one, however many people working at the chains have seen their roles and responsibilities change considerably as part of the plan.
Inglis, who joined John Lewis in 2008 as head of brand communications, and rose to director of marketing in 2010, later taking up the role of customer director, was expected to become group customer director.
His Waitrose counterpart Martin George has been named group marketing director.
According to the group, Inglis is leaving to explore new opportunities. A John Lewis spokesperson told Campaign: “We have announced to partners that Craig Inglis will leave the partnership at the end of March. Craig has decided that, having worked for the business for 12 years, latterly as customer director, now is the right time to explore opportunities outside the partnership."
Inglis is credited with introducing John Lewis’ keenly anticipated Christmas ads. In 2009, he appointed ad agency Adam & Eve to the brand’s advertising account, paving the way for some of the retailer’s most celebrated ads of the decade, including ‘The long wait’ and ‘Monty the penguin’.
