Kering has appointed Lionel Vermeil to the newly created position of "director of fashion and luxury intelligence”. Having previously served as communications director at Balenciaga, the fashion house that belongs to the group, Vermeil took up his new post last week.

“Reporting to Louise Beveridge, Senior Vice President Communications and a member of the Kering executive committee, Vermeil will bring his expertise of the industry and provide analyses of fashion trends and new design talents to Kering and its brands,” the company said in a statement.

Vermeil began his career in 1986 at the press office of Jean brand Paul Gaultier. Between 2002 and 2003, he was head of international press and public relations at Givenchy, before being appointed communications at Jean Paul Gaultier. Since 2007, he has served as communications director of Balenciaga.

With almost 30 years of experience, he has an encyclopedic familiarity with the world of fashion. He has the resume of a true fashion connoisseur, which Kering must want to highlight in creating the ad hoc job.

In his new role, Vermeil will be Kering’s eyes and ears, following trends and news from fashion world, while bringing offering his expertise to the group.
