With data comparing 14-20 July with 7-13 July, over the past week, sales of sunglasses have increased by nearly 90% (actually by 88.27%) as people prepared for prolonged sunshine.

Sunglasses sales increased 171% week-on-week for male shoppers and they also spent 11.4% more per pair compared to the previous week. Female sunglasses sales increased 98.6% with the price of the average pair of sunglasses increasing 9.5%.

With the UK population flocking to the coast, sales of bikinis rose by 79.8% with demand in the South West shooting up by 125.5% as people headed to the shores of Devon and Cornwall.

Data would also suggest women were marginally more prepared for the hot spell, wardrobe-wise. Shorts sales among men saw a 97.7% week-on-week increase whereas women saw a 84.3% increase.

Britons were also looking to keep their skin protected as sunscreen sales were up 54.89% over the past week.
