Du Retail joined the L'Oréal group in 1996, serving notably as CFO France for make-up brand Maybelline. From 2006 to 2011, du Retail held the position of CFO of L’Oréal in China, before taking up a similar position for the group in western Europe.

From 2013 to 2016, based in Paris, du Retail was global CFO of the group’s Consumer Products division, which includes brands like Garnier and Maybelline. In 2017, he was named general manager of the same division in China. In October 2020 he returned to France, where he held the post of managing director for L’Oréal’s e-commerce operations.

South Korea is ranked among the 10 top beauty markets worldwide, with sales forecast to reach $13.9 billion by 2027 and an annual growth rate of approximately 9%, according to Allied Market Research.
