French, Paris-based leather goods brand Polène has established a new home in New York City, with the opening of the brand’s first-ever international flagship.

Up until now, Polène products were sold solely online and in their Parisian flagship store. Unlike its Paris flagship, which opened in 2020, the NYC store has its own unique identity, but remains minimalist and monochromatic, with a play on volumes and statement leather installations.

Located in one of the oldest buildings on Broadway and officially opening later this month, the 1938 square-foot space is described as an experiential store. In particular, it offers an upcycling program where customers are able to create a personalized gift using an articulated robotic arm.

The opening also creates a new opportunity for an artistic collaboration. The Chateau Brooklyn brand was chosen to create bespoke leather and wood seats, and Jorge Penades to create a table made using leftover leather cuttings.

In store, customers will find Polène’s leather handbags and other small leather goods such as belts, wallets and card holders. The brand uses full-grain calf leather, renowned for its superior beauty, sourced from the most prestigious Italian and Spanish tanneries and certified by The Leather Working Group. Likewise, the metal hardware used is gilded via PVD-plating, a technique used in the watchmaking industry for its long-lasting quality.

For the store design, Polène partnered with up-and-coming French architect Valériane Lazard, ranked one of the Top 100 Interior Designers of 2021 by AD France.

Since its creation in 2016, the brand has rapidly expanded thanks to its high quality pieces, reasonable prices and digital presence. Polène’s largest markets are currently France, the U.S., Japan and China. Founded by three siblings, the brand has long been committed to creating collections that combine strong, iconic designs using high-quality materials and excellent savoir-faire.

Next, Polène said it has plans to expand its retail presence once again with a new store opening in Tokyo, slated for March/April 2023. The range of Polène products is also expected to expand with the arrival of a jewelry line and a shoe collection in the near future.
