Iconic American denim company Levi Strauss & Co. announced on Wednesday that it has appointed Yael Garten, director of Siri data science and engineering at Apple, to its board of directors.

Prior to joining Apple in 2017, Garten spent more than five years at LinkedIn, rising from the role of senior data scientist to director of data science. During her time at the company, she led a team that worked primarily with online experimentation and analyses, seeking to gain insights into user experience in order to inform product strategy.
In 2010, she founded gNetics Systems Inc., a consulting firm that advises companies on transforming data into insights.
Garten holds a Ph.D. in biomedical informatics from Stanford University School of Medicine and an MSc from Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science. She has been an advisory board member for Northwestern University’s graduate program in analytics since 2017.
“As we continue our digital transformation and infuse data and analytics into our business, we are expanding the board’s expertise in that area,” explained Stephen C. Neal, chair of the Levi Strauss board, in a release. “Yael’s deep business acumen and expertise will help LS&Co. drive agility, productivity, and consumer experience as we design the future of our organization.”
Garten’s appointment to Levi Strauss’ board of directors is effective January 28, 2020.
