The Franco-Swiss group FM Industries Sycrilor, which manufactures jewelry for some of the biggest luxury companies such as Louis Vuitton, Cartier and Mont-Blanc, has opened one of its technological and production centers in the Portuguese city of Covilha, located in the center of the country close to Salamanca.

The new center began production in the past few weeks and has 95 employees who create, among other items, luxury jewelry for the most prestigious brands in the world.

According to Efe Vítor Pereira, the mayor of Covilha, “the strategy adopted by FM Industries Sycrilor represents a new movement dedicated to high quality precision in the mechanical industry.”

Pereira also stated that this entrepreneurial group “is one the biggest international specialists in the production of metals with high quality and precision.”

The mayor noted his desire for this initiative to signal the beginning of “new investments in a field which demands great specialization.”

As the group revealed today, the Corvilha plant receives raw metals and its workers, a highly-skilled workforce of which the vast majority have studied engineering, are in charge of polishing the metal so that in later stages it can be adapted to different pieces of jewelry.

The company, with more than 30 years of experience, operated until last year in its headquarters in Noirmont (Switzerland) and Vercel (France). It also has various workshops in France and another in the north of Morrocco, where it has a factory with approximately 50 workers in the city of Mequinez.

The Portuguese center, which has the highest number of employees and intends to increase its workforce over the next few months, is located in the Canhoso Industrial Park.

Its metal creations will also be used to create high-end fountain pens for the likes of Mont-Blanc and Cartier, as well as watches for prestigious brands such as Tiffany.
In addition to polished metal, the center also creates sporting accessories and components, as the group also works for the brand Edelweiss.

Machinery with high-precision technology has also been installed in the new factory, which will allow for the production of metal tools used in medical settings, such as in operating rooms and for dentistry.
