The floods in northern Italy have claimed several lives and has left tens of thousands of citizens homeless, prompting a national emergency response in the country. The group did not officially reveal the amount of the donation, but according to reports it totals 1 million euros.

“Italy is LVMH's second home after France. We are proud of the thousands of people who work with us in Italy and grateful to the country,” LVMH said in a news statement.

Its portfolio has grown to feature a number of Italian brands including Bulgari, Fendi, Loro Piana, Berluti, Pucci, Acqua di Parma, Thelios, and Cova. The group equally counts 13,000 employees in the country and operates 35 production sites including three in the region hit by the floods.

“I would like to express my full support to our collaborators and all the Italians who are directly or indirectly affected by this tragedy. Italy occupies a special place in our hearts, we are half-Italian with many Houses like Bulgari, Cova, Fendi or Loro Piana and even Berluti who are great ambassadors for the country. Faced with these images, this tragic toll, it was our responsibility to act and help at our level,” said LVMH Group Managing Director Toni Belloni.

The donation follows similar gestures from the likes of Kering, on behalf of its maisons, which include Gucci, Saint Laurent, Pomellato and Brioni, among others. Luxury carmaker Ferrari and the Formula One motor racing group have equally made donations.
