This past February, a petition was launched for the creation of a Selena cosmetics line from MAC. It received an overwhelming response, with the initial 5,000 signatures sought raised in less than 24 hours. Just a month later it had over 30,000 signatures.

Since then, the signatories and fans of the late Latin pop star had been waiting in anticipation for their petition to be heard. Last Thursday they were rewarded, with MAC cosmetics announcing the launch of a Selena collection in 2016 via an Instagram post

“Like the legend herself, Selena Quintanilla’s fans are an inspiration to us all for their love and enthusiasm. It’s happening! We are excited to announce the M•A•C Selena Quintanilla collection, available in 2016,” reads the post.

Patty Rodriguez, creator of the petition replied, also via Instagram: “There are no words to explain this feeling!! We did it. MAC Cosmetics announced this morning the release of MAC + Selena Quintanilla collection in 2016!!!”

Selena Quintanilla was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar, the president of her fan club, in 1995, but her sister, Suzette, is helping to keep her memory alive by teaming up with M.A.C. chiefs to make one of the singer's fashion dreams come true.

The cosmetics company, part of the Estée Lauder group, has worked with many celebrities in the past. Most notably it recently worked with British singer Ellie Goulding, Couture Hat Designer Philip Treacy, and American actress Brooke Shields.
