Clothing stamped with the slogans "Our Future", "solidarity", "unite", "choice", "suffragette" set the activist tone at the New York designer's highly-anticipated runway show on Tuesday.

Studded beret-clad models took to the runway at Marc by Marc Jacobs line in subversive fashion mixing military and utility clothing, tough chic oak-leaf camouflage, tartan, lace and wet look leather. All to the tune of T-Rex's "Children of the Revolution", by the "Fight the Powers" by Public Enemy, and "I fought the Law" by the Clash.

For a minute there, runway show-goers could have been forgiven for thinking that they had wound up at a Vivienne Westwood show.

As New York fashion week unruliest designer -- the message to fashion's powers that be, was loud and clear. Like many designers, the former designer for Louis Vuitton wholeheartedly embraced the sulfurous 70s and the era's liberating mood was omnipresent.

Spring's nature theme gathered steam for Fall as Marc Jacobs played with a garden-inspired aesthetic with allover oak leaf motifs that gave camouflage a pacifist twist.

While the model army stomped the turf-inspired runway in "don't mess with me" studded clumpy biker boots and boyish "winkle picker" flats in gleaming black or white leather.

The show featured a cool new hands-free accessory -- the belt purse. Marc by Marc Jacobs girls can shoot from the hip with this boxy leather bag wrapped around the waistline, which leaves fingers free to tweet till your heart's content.

By the end of the show as models gathered together for the finale to the sounds of John Lennon singing "Instant Karma's gonna get you", it became clear that Jacobs's key looks would definitely rub off on the fashion world.
