Marni and Zalando in multibrand shoe capsule collection

Marni is in the news at the moment following the announcement of Consuelo Castiglioni’s departure from the brand but it’s business as usual at the Only The Brave-owned company as it unveils its latest retail collaboration.

The companies have reinterpreted Dr Martens, Reebok, Vans and Timberland styles

Marni is linking up with mass-market e-tailer Zalando for a footwear collection launching this week (October 27) that is a step beyond the standard high-end designer/mass-market retailer collaboration.

Instead, Marni has put its own spin on four of the shoe brands that are most popular on Zalando, working with Dr Martens, Reebok, Timberland and Vans for “an original interpretation of” each that reflects “Marni’s artistic and avant-garde spirit,” Zalando said.

The limited edition #StepIntoMarni collection for both women and men is claimed to experiment with shape and features “innovative” leather textures in pale colours with Marni signature details such as fringing.
Zalando said that together with Marni and the partner brands, it wanted “to go further and do something that stood out, was unexpected and disruptive.”

The Dr Martens Adrian Tassle Loafer (£149.99) comes in a base of crackled leather with details in thick raw-cut calfskin. The Reebok Instapump Fury (£164.99) comes in a trio of signature colours, featureing a clash of textures and a double-layered fringe.

The £209.99 Timberland shoe comes in smooth leather and soft suede with a knitted cuff carrying trademark Marni stripes in signature colours. And the £124.99 Vans Sidestripe is reinterpreted as a brushstroke seeping into crackled leather.
