Men’s fashion shows: John Varvatos leaves Milan for New York

John Varvatos is returning to the catwalks of New York. The New York menswear designer is among the first to announce his participation in the first edition of New York Fashion Week: Men's, to be held from July 13-16, 2015 at the Skylight Clarkson Square in SoHo, presenting men’s spring-summer 2016 ready-to-wear collections.

Other American designers should follow suit, announcing their defection from London, Paris and Milan.

Varvatos, who launched his brand in 2000, had left New York’s catwalks during women’s fashion in late 2008 because "the timing between Fashion Week and the menswear fashion calendar was never really aligned," he said in a statement.

In January 2009, the designer began to show in Milan, allowing him to gain international visibility. After 13 seasons on the Milanese catwalks, the time seems ripe for him to come home.

"Last month, we opened a store in Detroit, my hometown, and we had such a positive response, it made me want to take my show to New York. I’m very happy to come back home to help launch this first week of the New York based menswear," said John Varvatos, who will present his collection at the end of New York Fashion Week: Men's on Thursday, July 16.
